ESG - Do you know what this initials means?

Of English origin, the term ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) is used to say how much a business seeks ways to minimize its impacts on society and the environment around it.

This methodology aims at how companies should work and make their profits, but with strong initiatives that include minimal degradation of the environment, such as the treatment given to waste generation, use of renewable energy, attention to reverse logistics of polluting materials, as well as policies for recycling, reuse and reduction of organic raw materials or those derived therefrom.

Furthermore, it is not restricted only to environmental issues, but also to social ones (treatment with employees, from legal obligations to even the opportunities given to minorities and women; non-differentiation of color; treatment with suppliers; friendly relations with the civil society; etc.) and with corporate governance: the company generating its profits (it is a company not a charity institution) but with relevant attention to anti-corruption and fraudulent practices, the rejection of slave labor, full and unrestricted compliance with rules, norms and laws of the Country and to whom the commercial relations cover.

Lately, ESG practices and criteria have been gaining strength in South America as a result of events that have called into question harmful practices by several companies, such as: Odebrecht (corruption), Samanco and Vale (environmental damage and civil society) and Daslu (slave labor).

That's why GERAFORTE uses this methodology on a daily basis. We know the relevance of these issues and our role in society, and we feel obliged to generate a positive impact.
